Fuels for agnion wood gasification plants

The fluidized bed technology of the Heatpipe-Reformer enables the use of a broad range of fuels – both biogenic and synthetic fuels (e.g. PE ,PP, PS).

Basically, all carbonaceous fuels that can be transformed into combustible gases (CO, H2, CH4) are suitable.

Currently used fuels

At present woody biomass is mainly used, such as pellets, briquettes, wood chips from forest residues, industrial wood waste, landscaping wood material, wood from short-rotation plantations.

The pellets or wood chips employed have a water content of M20 (W20) and a particle size of P16 (G30).

Higher water contents in biomass fuels are possible, although this impairs their cost-effectiveness. Prior drying of fuels through the waste heat of the bio-energy plant proves more efficient.

Future fuels for bioenergy

In the short run, mixed pellets and agripellets from agricultural and horticultural waste as well as energy crops are expected to be used for the firing of the agnion Heatpipe-Reformer.

At present, intense researching is being carried out in the conditioning of fuels through additives so as to optimize gasification at high temperatures.

Further developments include sewage sludge drying and the subsequent sewage sludge burning.
