Bioenergy from modern wood gasification

The Heatpipe-Reformer developed by agnion (Video on the operating mode for Media Player and for Quick Time) is an innovative plant for the generation of climate friendly and renewable energy. Through an innovative method of wood gasification, agnion has developed a platform for the generation of a high-quality wood-based gas, the so-called synthesis gas or syngas.

Downstream processing enables syngas refining to produce:

  • High-temperature heat
  • Biomethane (substitute for natural gas) and
  • Electricity

The agnion Heatpipe-Reformer is the only process worldwide efficiently working with a electric power output of 400 kW. In the combined heat and power generation with a gas engine, the agnion Heatpipe-Reformer attains 30% power efficiency.

In combination with heat recovery, this locally employable technology thus attains a total efficiency of 80%, which has so far been achieved only through plants in a considerably higher power range.

The generated power can be used locally or fed into the grid. In many countries there is a special feed-in tariff for bioenergy, in Germany, for instance, pursuant to the EEG (Renewable Energies Act).

The generated heat can be provided in a customized way at different temperature levels as steam or water. Thus, electrical supply companies, for instance, use the heat output for the heating of public and private buildings as well as swimming pools, industrial enterprises use it as process heat or for heating purposes and the timber industry, for example, for drying purposes.
