The agnion group was established in 2007 together with Munich-based investor Munich Venture Partners and US-American investor Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers on the initiative of the company’s founder Engineer Jürgen Karl (today holding the chair for Energy Process Engineering).

In 2009 a further renowned investor could be won over with Wellington Partners.

In May 2011 the American company Waste Management Inc. was welcomed as a fourth strategic investor.
